The Hotel Zags Portland

This hotel has everything you could ask for and so, so much more!! Their customer service also goes over and beyond! I was here for a business summit and received the worst news in the middle of it. I don’t want to go into detail but I really felt so taken care of by complete strangers. They were sweet and accommodating and I couldn’t have asked for better people with the situation unexpectedly thrown at me.

Some areas are showing wear and tear. Lobby and restaurant are nice but upstairs guest areas could use a spruce. Room was small but comfortable. This is a great location though. Bus and tram are close and the area is walkable and feels safe.

Good location, Nice staff and great bed. The breakfast is poor but main issue is the heating system in the room. It’s terribly noisy and woke me up several time during the night !

It’s a good time to be in Portland.... alive, vibrant, and welcoming again. And nestled right in the middle of it all, The Hotel Zags feels like the city distilled into a boutique gem. From the moment I arrived, it was seamless. Parking was effortless always a spot waiting, secure, and just steps away. Even the security staff were warm and attentive, the kind of presence that makes you feel both safe and genuinely cared for. That alone set the tone: this wasn’t just another hotel stay, it was a little sanctuary. The courtyard glowed with fire pits at night, inviting conversation and s’mores under the open sky. My room was spotless, artful, and light-filled. Every interaction with the staff reinforced what so many say, friendly, kind, and full of great local advice, but for me, it felt like they tuned into my time in the city. PLS on Sixth, the in-house restaurant, kept things playful with inventive bites and shakes, while the patio fireplace felt like my own private corner of Portland. Beyond that, The Hotel Zags stood out as the best in its area, modern, clean, yet still brimming with Portland’s quirky soul.

Clean rooms and great patio, but some quirks We had a mostly great stay at the Hotel Zags. The room itself was very clean and well-kept. A definite standout was the outdoor patio—they offer complimentary s'mores, which was a lovely touch and created a really fun atmosphere in the evenings. There were just a few things that kept it from being perfect. The shower head in our room had a weird nozzle design that was surprisingly difficult to use; changing the settings was a bit of a struggle. We were also disappointed to find that the on-site restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. It seems like an odd decision for a hotel restaurant to be closed for two days during the week, so just be aware of that if you're booking a stay early in the week.

Great location, outstanding staff. Two burned out lightbulbs in Room 448 are my only complaints. Decent rates. Centrally located. Pet friendly. Lots of families with young children. Safe and secure property. Really NICE amenities at the lobby and inside the hotel. I'll stay here again.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ After a not-so-great experience earlier this year, I decided to give The Hotel Zags another chance during Pride and I’m so glad I did. My whole team stayed here, and from start to finish we had a truly excellent experience. The customer service was wonderful, the staff was kind and gracious, and the amenities were lovely. The restaurant on-site served delicious food, (breakfast was amazing) and everything about our stay felt thoughtful and welcoming. To be very honest the rooms could still use a little sprucing up but with the level of service and the amenities they provided during this stay, the rooms didn’t matter as much. We felt taken care of. Most importantly, the team at The Hotel Zags took the time to turn around a past negative experience and leave us with a lasting memory full of joy and pride. We would absolutely come back again — thank you for making our visit so special!

Lovely hotel! Very close to public transit (especially the yellow line) so it makes getting around Portland very convenient. We were in town for a race weekend so getting to the track was a breeze! The restaurant is absolutely wonderful and the hotel amenities kept us entertained. The pinball machines, s’mores at the fire pits, and equipment rentals are lovely touches that really elevate the level of fun and hospitality during the stay. The property is clean, safe, and well decorated. The curated art on the property is a lovely touch as well. There was a little Goat market while we were there that was a really cool welcome to Portland! I highly recommend!
